What changed in these pages

Applies to SynapseOS builds from 2026-10-09 (20261009-141152 and later).

Newest first. Each entry names the build the pages were checked against.

Every page carries an "applies to" line under its title naming the oldest SynapseOS build it describes. A command or a file that differs on an older build is called out where it differs. Report a page that does not match what your unit does to [email protected], with the build from the login banner.

2026-10-10

Checked against SynapseOS builds of 2026-10-09 (20261009-141152 and later), Synapse 0.8.6.

  • New: Network requirements, with the outbound destinations and ports, the HTTP proxy for updates, and a private CA.
  • New: Troubleshooting, High availability, Backup, restore and decommission, Configuration reference.
  • Updating: the commands come first, status is shown with its real output, and the checks after a reboot are listed.
  • Security model: what leaves the unit, and to where.
  • Known limitations: no HTTP proxy for the agent; no self-service evaluation image; the clock is not synchronised as delivered; the variant check cannot be overridden although the updater's message says it can.
  • Corrections from a second review: the login banner and /etc/os-release name the build the unit was delivered with, not the running one; a backup leaves machine-id and os-release out; the audit log and the local syslog files are outside the journal; a pair tracks its external leg only when the address lives there; the macOS device name with the Prolific driver; the proxy configuration file is created with its final mode.

2026-10-09

Checked against SynapseOS builds of 2026-10-09, Synapse 0.8.6.

  • The section's first version: overview, logging in, configuring, updating, Synapse versions, the proxy, platforms, the serial console, the security model and known limitations.
  • Corrections from review before publication: the offline update is an archive to unpack on the media; (verified) in status is dm-verity, and the trial counter in a boot entry's name is what says a slot was confirmed; reset restarts nothing; BlueField-3 units run with the card's Secure Boot off; a same-architecture build for another platform can install and boot.
